Tina Walsh, an eighth grader at Holy Ghost Catholic School, has volunteered for three years as an assistant to several therapists at a clinic in Albuquerque specializing in the treatment of children. Diagnosed with cerebral palsy as an infant, Tina spent several years in her early childhood performing different kinds of therapy. “I came out of all this thinking that I can help children with the challenges they face,” she said. So she offered to volunteer at the clinic that had provided some of her therapy. “I love young children, and wanted to do something where I knew the environment,” said Tina. At the clinic, Tina gathers items needed for sessions, helps clients with their tasks, and sometimes creates new activities. (CLICK THE TITLE TO READ THE FULL ARTICLE)
Holy Ghost Catholic School would like to invite all military and veterans--active duty, reserves, retired--and their families-- to join us for our annual Veterans Day tribute. This year, while we are not able to gather in person, we are honoring those who serve at this “virtual” event on November 11th at 10:00 a.m. on “Facebook live.” The commemoration will feature songs from music teacher Ben Maes and our students; flag raising by the HG Girl Scouts; special Veterans Day remarks by Lt. Col. Lindsay Post,705th Combat Training Squadron Commander; and more. Don’t miss it!
How can we keep students six feet apart and still connected?” is a typical rhetorical question asked about school reopening. As the first nationally certified Catholic STEM school, we are working on an answer that is driven by data, creativity, compassion, and faith. In March, Holy Ghost Catholic School closed for two days before reopening to “virtually” educate. Staff met continually to analyze our effectiveness and ensure optimum learning for each child. Hello, Holy Ghost Families. We hope that you had the opportunity to read the letter sent out to parents from Susan Murphy, Superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Archdiocese of Santa Fe. As stated in the letter, the Archdiocese is planning for Catholic schools to reopen for the 2020-2021 school year on Monday, August 17. Planning is underway at Holy Ghost Catholic School as well to implement systems and protocols designed to ensure student and staff safety.
Dear Parents and Guardians, I want to update you on our plans for the 2020-21 school year. At this time our plan is to open all of the Catholic Schools on August 17, 2020. The Re-opening Task Force is developing Archdiocesan level guidance that all schools will follow. We are continuing to follow the guidance from the CDC as well as the governor of New Mexico. Each school has also been provided with a document titled “Leading With Hope” developed by the Andrew M. Greeley Center for Catholic Education-School of Education, Loyola University of Chicago that provides Catholic schools with a template for planning re-opening at the local school level.
We are pleased to announce two new teachers will be joining our HGCS community. Both teachers have experience in the Archdiocese of Santa Fe as well as time in Catholic schools in other states, giving us new perspectives and ideas to add to our faculty.
